Good morning principal, teachers and fellow schoolmates, I’m Li Wing Nam from class 3A and I would like to share with you my favourite book called Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane. It was later turned into a movie enacted by the latest Oscar Best Actor, Leonardo Dicarpio. But I first saw the movie and did not want the thrill to end so I turned to reading the book.
Shutter Island is one of the most well- crafted psychological thrillers. This book is about the U.S. Marshal, Teddy and his new -partner, Chuck who have come to Shutter Island, home of Hospital for the Criminally Insane, to investigate the disappearance of a patient, who is a murderess . Rachel Solando is loose somewhere on the island. And then there’s a storm on a dark night and this strange case turns even darker. The book is full of strange experiments, horrifying surgeries, and many twists and turns. No one is going to escape Shutter Island safely, because nothing at the Hospital is what it seems. Teddy finally finds out the truth about himself that he did not know. He is actually a patient in the hospital and not a policeman. He finds out more things about himself. Do you know how the book ends? Get a copy of the book and take yourself on a thrilling ride. A ride that is so unpredictable that it causes the readers to deeply fall in the story plot. I would like to use the last sentence of the book to end my talk: Which would be best? To live as a monster, or die as a good man? Thank you!
