Good morning principal, teachers and fellow schoolmates. I am Selena Chau from class 3D. Today, I’m excited to share one of my favourite books to all of you. It is called “Trip to North Pole”, written by Chris Van Allsburg. It contains a barrel of fun and meaningful elements.
First off, I would briefly introduce the content of the story. A little boy who pined for hearing the ringing bells of Santa’s sleigh was awake in his bedroom. There were only five minutes left to the Christmas Eve. He was so afraid that he missed the sleigh bell. After a while, an old-fashioned steam engine arrived on the street near his house and there was the toot of a train horn. The boy got on the train and started his journey of finding Santa.
In the story, my favorite character is the little boy who is kind and helpful deep down in spite of his shyness. At first, he was reluctant to make new friends on the train because of his shyness. However, he offered help to a girl when she lost her ticket. The boy’s positive attitude shown in the story certainly gives me insight on how I should treat my friends and parents. I know that I have to maintain a harmonious relationship with my peers and work as a team in order to achieve my goals. And to maintain a positive attitude, we should be helpful.
In addition to his pleasant character, I admire the boy as he was hopeful and brave. In this story, unless you truly believe in the existence of the sleigh bell, you cannot hear it. The conductor taught the boy that the most real things in the world are the things that we cannot see. Thus, he is optimistic and believes in the existence of the bell. Furthermore, even if he had to face lots of dangers, he still tried to help the girl to find the ticket. It also shows the bravery that he possessed when facing uncertainties and difficulties. The boy truly sets an admirable role model for us. We can learn from his positive attitude towards life.
In short, I learn to be a better person from the boy, such as helping others actively. The book also made me reflect on myself if I am being selfish and impolite to others. Thus, this book is inspiring and meaningful. And I would like to recommend it to all of you. This is the end of my sharing. Thank you!
