Good morning principal, teachers, and fellow schoolmates,

I am Ava Yu from class 5C. According to Child Trends, interpersonal relationships are formed at a more mature level as adolescents develop the necessary skills to develop and maintain these relationships. It takes dedication and work on both sides to keep the relationship. What’s more, strong interpersonal skills create more satisfying interactions in all environments, which is better for teens to integrate into society in the future. Therefore, it is important for us to know how to improve interpersonal relationships

To begin with, maintaining a healthy relationship, respect and being considerate is needed. A hedge between keeps friendship green. Everyone has his or her own secrets and personal space. Relationship will flourish if we respect each other’s privacy. For instance, teens take friendship seriously as peers are people who mean a lot to all of us. It may feel threatened when our friend spends time with others. However, real friendship does not mean we always have to be together. If you are afraid to let your friends be out of your sight, you are probably afraid of losing them. Good friendship will endure time spent apart. You and your friends may learn to appreciate each other even more. Therefore, even the best friends must part, we should learn not to be too clingy. Take it easy. That’s a good way to maintain a relationship.

Apart from that, honesty is the key to building trust in any relationship. Instead of being passive-aggressive when we don’t agree with someone, practice stating our opinion in a calm but firm way. Some people claim that, sometimes, they tell lies because they don’t want to hurt the others. Hiding how you really feel and trying to make everyone happy doesn’t make you nice, it just makes you a liar. Far form being endeared, people may leave you owing to your hypocrisy. Consequently, opening our heart and being truthful is a matter of great account. Moreover, learning how to honestly express your feelings and opinions in a tactful manner can improve your interpersonal skills.

Last but not least, don’t let argument spoil the relationship. What should we do when we are having conflicts with the others? Your desire to win in the argument may ruin the relationship. Silence is golden. Therefore, just stop arguing with them. You know, it takes two to tango. After both sides have calmed down, good communication is a must to break the deadlock. Listening to others with an open mind is important for understanding how they really feel, hence, find the best solution and end the conflict effectively. Furthermore, a thoughtful apology is more than everything as it can mend a relationship. Sincerity is a key element as well. Therefore, never underestimate the power of a “sorry”.

Conclusively speaking, it takes both sides’ responsibilities to maintain a relationship. Relationship means understanding, not agreement. It means genuineness, not cozenage. Moreover, being considerate and respect can never be neglected. They are the bedrock of building a fine relationship. Additionally, in face of the conflicts, patience and consideration is needed to settle the disputes. It is high time for us to focus on building harmonious relationships.

That’s all I want to share with you today. Thank you.
